Advice - flood clean-up operations (Mitchell)
With Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) firefighters on the ground in Mitchell assisting the community to clean out their properties, the Department of Community Safety (DCS) is advising residents who's homes have been damaged by flood that they should remove potential health hazards as a priority.
The Insurance Council of Australia has formally declared a catastrophe for inundated communities in south-west Queensland, including Mitchell, and accordingly residents are not required to wait for insurance assessors to inspect properties before removing household items that may pose a health risk.
The Insurance Council of Australia advises damaged or soiled items can be removed or disposed of after an inventory is recorded and photographs/samples taken by the owner to present later as part of an insurance claim.
The DCS is urging residents to work with emergency services so that clean-up operations can progress and health hazards can be avoided.
